Security Information
Bank of Travelers Rest uses several layers of security technology to enforce the confidentiality of your UpstateBanker session. The first layer is browser encryption. Secure browsers utilize secure socket layer, or SSL, technology to communicate with servers. When sending information to the bank, SSL technology scrambles, or encrypts, your information so no one, other than the bank, can read it.

SSL works in three ways: 

1. It creates a secure communication channel by encrypting all communication between the user and the server.
2. SSL verifies that the server you are connected to is the same server it claims to be. This assures you are really communicating with the bank, and not someone trying to intercept your message or transaction.
3. A cryptographic word count is conducted to ensure integrity of the data between the server and the user. This word count gives a count of the number of bytes in a document and ensures the correct number of bytes are both transmitted and received. By using SSL, even the word count is scrambled so no one can make changes to it. If a message is not received in full, the message is rejected. Another copy of the message is sent automatically.

To tell whether a site is 128-bit encrypted, look in the bottom right-hand corner of your browser for a padlock. The padlock ensures the page is encrypted. When using UpstateBanker, you will see a padlock from the time you login until you exit UpstateBanker.

The second layer of security rests within the features of UpstateBanker. When you sign-up for UpstateBanker, the bank will assign you a computer generated ID number. Although your original 12-digit ID will always work when accessing your account, you can create a second ID which is known only by you. Both IDs will work when accessing your account.

The PIN used to access, UpstateBanker is initially the last four digits of your social security number or the last four of your tax ID for business accounts. When you first sign on, you will be prompted to change your PIN to a 6-8 digit alphanumeric PIN. The system will require you to change your PIN at least once every six months. You have the ability to change your PIN more often if you feel the need. To keep unauthorized individuals from accessing your account, we have instituted a PIN security system. If your PIN is entered incorrectly three consecutive times, the user is "locked out" of the system. Personally Selected Account Names
We do not display any personal information on UpstateBanker other than your name and address. Since we use Pseudo Account Names, your account numbers do not appear online. Your social security number will never appear in UpstateBanker. This is another way that we are committed to making your online visit as safe and secure as possible.

Cookies
Cookies are a small piece of data sent to your browser from a website. Each time you go back to that website, your browser will remember the information. The cookie is returned ONLY to the website that sent it originally and no one else can view them.

Many websites use cookies to remember information about you and what you have done previously on that website, setting preferences, or going to favorite links within their site. Cookies do not carry any personal information about you.

Bank of Travelers Rest requires the use of cookies to keep track of how long you have been logged on to UpstateBanker. When an UpstateBanker session is idle for 10 minutes, the session closes and you need to sign in again; this is due to the cookie file. When you login to UpstateBanker, three cookies are sent to your computer. The first two simply have a reference number attached to them while the third is a random string of numbers that lets us verify that someone isn't trying to impersonate a legitimate customer.

Protect your UpstateBanker account information
While Bank of Travelers Rest works to protect your banking privacy, you will also play an important role in protecting your accounts. There are a number of steps you can take to ensure that your UpstateBanker account information is protected:

• Don't reveal your User ID or PIN to anyone else. Your User ID and PIN are designed to protect your banking information, but they will only work if you keep them to yourself.
• Change your UpstateBanker PIN frequently.
• Do not walk away from your computer if you are in the middle of an UpstateBanker session.
• Once you have finished your UpstateBanker session, sign off before visiting other Internet sites. To assure the utmost security of your account, be sure to click the EXIT button, clear your browser's cache to erase any stored information and close your browser window.
